Installation Guide

Get your EchoRoam eSIM up and running in under five minutes. Follow the steps below for your device.

1

Purchase & Receive Your eSIM

Choose your destination and data plan on the EchoRoam website. After completing your purchase, you'll receive an email containing:

  1. Your eSIM QR code — a unique code that downloads your cellular profile
  2. Activation instructions — tailored to your selected destination
  3. Your EID and confirmation details — for your records

Make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection before installing — the profile is downloaded over the internet. Keep the email handy; you'll need the QR code during setup.

2

Add Your eSIM on iPhone & iPad

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data on iPad)
  3. Tap Add eSIM (or Add Cellular Plan)
  4. Select "Use QR Code"
  5. Point your camera at the QR code from your confirmation email
  6. When prompted, tap Add Cellular Plan
  7. Name your plan (e.g., "EchoRoam Japan") so you can easily identify it later

Alternative method: If you have the QR code on another device, take a screenshot and use Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code to scan it from your photo library.

3

Add Your eSIM on Android

Samsung Galaxy:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Connections
  3. Tap SIM card manager
  4. Under eSIM, tap Add eSIM (or Add mobile plan)
  5. Select "Scan QR code from image" or use your camera
  6. Scan the QR code from your email and confirm the download

Google Pixel:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Network & Internet
  3. Tap SIMs
  4. Tap Add a SIM at the bottom
  5. Select "Download a SIM instead?" and follow the prompts to scan the QR code

Other Android devices (OnePlus, Motorola, etc.) may have slightly different menu paths. Look for "SIM", "Network", or "eSIM" in your Settings app.

4

Activate Your eSIM

Your EchoRoam eSIM is ready to use as soon as you arrive at your destination. Here's how to turn it on:

  1. Open Settings > Cellular (iOS) or Settings > Connections > SIM card manager (Samsung)
  2. Find your EchoRoam plan and toggle it On
  3. Under Cellular Data / Mobile Data, select your EchoRoam line as the active data source
  4. Enable Data Roaming on the EchoRoam line (required — don't worry, you won't be charged extra by your home carrier)

Within 30–60 seconds, you should see the local carrier name appear in your status bar and data connectivity will begin. If you're already at your destination, the eSIM activates immediately upon connecting to a supported network.

💡

Tip: You can install the eSIM profile before your trip and leave it turned off. It won't consume any data until you enable it and connect to a network at your destination. This way you're ready to go as soon as you land.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

No signal after activating the eSIM:

  • Make sure Data Roaming is turned on for the EchoRoam line
  • Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to force a network re-scan
  • Restart your device and wait 2–3 minutes for network registration
  • Check that you're in a supported coverage area (some rural or remote regions may have limited coverage)

QR code doesn't scan:

  • Ensure the QR code is displayed on a bright screen (increase brightness to 100%)
  • Hold your camera steady about 15–20 cm away from the code
  • Try taking a screenshot and scanning from your photo library instead
  • Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi during the download

Data is connected but very slow:

  • You may be on a 3G network in a low-coverage area — move to a location with better reception
  • Disable any background apps that consume large amounts of data (cloud backups, video streaming, etc.)
  • Toggle the eSIM off and on again to reconnect to a faster tower

"Invalid eSIM" or installation failed:

  • Make sure your device supports eSIM — check our compatibility page
  • Your device may have reached the maximum number of stored eSIM profiles (usually 5–10). Delete unused profiles first
  • Ensure you haven't already activated this eSIM on another device — each QR code can only be used once
🔐

Travelling to China? Download a VPN app before you depart. Many popular services like Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube are blocked behind the Great Firewall. Recommended VPNs include Astrill, ExpressVPN, LetsVPN, and Surfshark — all of which work well with EchoRoam eSIMs. Once in China, you won't be able to access app stores to download new VPNs.

⚠️

Do not delete your eSIM profile! Removing the eSIM from your device settings will permanently deactivate it and cannot be restored. Once deleted, you'll need to purchase a new plan. If you're running low on data, simply buy a top-up instead of removing the profile.
